Slot cutter bits (also called slot cutting bits) cut a horizontal groove into the edge or face of a workpiece. Common uses include biscuit joint slots, spline grooves, T-molding channels, glass retainer grooves, and decorative riffle-edge profiles.

A slot cutter uses interchangeable 3-wing cutter heads on an arbor and cuts horizontally into an edge. A dado bit is a fixed-diameter straight or spiral bit that cuts a flat-bottomed groove across the face of a board. Slot cutters excel at edge grooving; dado bits are better for cross-grain grooves.

Our modular system uses interchangeable cutter heads mounted on a common arbor. Swap the cutter head for a different kerf width, or stack multiple cutters with shims on the slot cutter arbor to achieve wider slots.

A full-stack slot cutter set mounts all included cutter heads simultaneously on a single arbor, allowing you to cut a wide dado or deep rabbet in a single pass rather than multiple repositioned passes.

Use 1/2" shank slot cutter arbors whenever possible, especially for large-diameter cutters or stacked setups. The larger shank reduces deflection and vibration, producing cleaner, more consistent slot widths.
