Plycore Drill Press Table W/Fence
The Drill Press is an indispensable tool, but it was designed for working with metal, not wood. The Infinity Tools Drill Press table has an ample table with multiple hold-down options, a quality fence and a replaceable center insert.
The drill press is a tool that most woodworkers have in their shop and it's the best way to make precise holes in just about any material. One major drawback with the drill press is that they are not usually designed with woodworking in mind. In fact, most have small tables better suited to holding metal working vices instead of woodworking fixtures. We were tired of dealing with these shortcomings in our shop so we designed this new Drill Press Table (DPT-100) to solve the table problem we face anytime we use our drill press.
The first problem we wanted to solve was the puny standard table that most manufacturers supply with their drill presses. We'd like to meet the woodworker that uses that pathetically small and awkwardly shaped surface for drilling holes in wood, what is your name and how do you sleep at night? As our first order of business, we sorted the size issue by designing a comfortably large table top that measures in at a healthy 16" x 24" (nominal). This greatly increases the support area of any 12" to 20" drill press and gives you lots of great options for work holding. If you've got a drill press that is smaller or larger there's a good chance our top will fit yours as well but it may require some user modifications during installation.
The table itself is designed inside and out to be flat, stiff, and durable. The core is made of 1" thick exterior grade void-free premium plycore plywood with a Microdot laminate top surface and balance laminated bottom surface. What does all that mean? It means our drill press table top is guaranteed to stay flat and true, day after day and year after year. The Micro Dot laminate is definitely a favorite of ours, it has a dimpled texture much like a golf ball that allows workpieces to slide easily, but not too easily. You could say it has the Goldilocks coefficient of friction. It's also seriously tough and super durable. Did we mention it looks cool?
To provide ample clamping options, we install four rows of anodized aluminum, 1/4-20 T-Track in the top. These provide a place to secure the included fence and provide plenty of clamping options. We also include a pair of Aluminum Hold -Downs (100-662) with each table so you can get to work right away without the need of additional accessories. Proper work holding is the best way to make the drill press safer and more accurate, especially when using large Forstner bits or drilling small or unusually shaped workpieces.
Because woodworkers often need to drill large diameter holes, we added an oversize 4" x 6" replaceable insert into the top. The pocket for the insert has a leveling screw at each corner ensuring the insert will sit perfectly flush with the surrounding table. We make the included insert from 1/2" thick MDF and the simple dimensions allow you to make your own replacements when needed. We also offer replacement inserts in a convenient package (DPT-IP3) so you can keep a few extra on hand at all times.
The Infinity Drill Press Fence (DPF-100) is made from a 24" long anodized T-Track extrusion and mounts to the table with a pair of tall knobs making tool-free adjustments easy. The fence is fully adjustable, allowing it to be positioned at any angle or location on the table surface. Measuring 1" x 2" the fence rail features multiple t-tracks which are compatible with 1/40-20 size low profile T-Track hardware allowing for easy installation and use of stop blocks and clamps for accurate repeat work. The ends of the fence rail are also finished off with a removable cap to prevent the fence from snagging on clothing or bruising workpiece corners or edges. While the fence is included with the drill press table package (PDT-100), it is also available separately for those who may have a table with 1/4-20 t-tracks already and would like an upgrade.
Another great feature you'll love is that once installed, our drill press table can be removed and reinstalled in a matter of seconds. This unique benefit means you can have the best of both worlds; drill holes in wood one minute and then remove the table and use your drill press with your metalworking vice the next minute. Switching back and forth takes seconds, probably faster than it took you to read this paragraph.
Installation is straightforward; position our top onto your drill press and mark the perimeter of the stock table, then remove both, flip them over and install the two toggle clamps with the included screws.
You'll notice that we include 4 additional screws with the table. Installed around the perimeter of the table, they'll act as centering pins, making it extremely easy to locate the Infinity top for re-installation. If this sounds a little confusing be sure to watch the video below, it'll show you how quick and easy installation really is. Drill presses with thick table castings may require the addition of a spacer pad between the table and clamp base, we recommend making this spacer from plywood and securing it with 4 screws that penetrate the top roughly 5/8" deep.
If you are tired of putting up with a drill press set-up for metalworking and want to add functionality that will serve in your woodworking shop for years, it's time to start using an Infinity Drill Press Table.
