Add Classic Details to your Box Projects with this Exclusive System!

The Infinity Tools Dovetail Spline System makes creating beautiful and strong dovetail spline joints fast and accurate. The spline jigs come in two sizes and can be used at the router table or with handheld routers. The unique spline making sled works with almost any table saw to create perfect fitting dovetail splines that lock in place for beautiful gap-free results. See below to choose the package that's right for you.

Our exclusive Tapered Dovetail Spline System is a surefire way to create distinctive-looking boxes in your shop. This system not only creates eye-catching dovetail spline joints, but reinforces the joinery on your projects.

The unique, tapered groove and spline fit together like hand in glove. The anodized, extruded aluminum router jig works with a brass guide bushing to create a tapered dovetail groove in the corners of your box. You can use a handheld router or a router table to rout the grooves.

Our CNC-machined, HDPE table saw sled with replaceable zero-clearance insert automatically creates the proper taper when cutting the dovetail splines to fit the routed grooves in the box. The stop block on the fence ensures repeatable, accurate widths for the splines. The sled works on most right-tilt and left-tilt table saws with ¾”-wide miter slots.

Whether used in contemporary, or classic furniture, dovetail joinery is a highlight of quality woodworking.

Infinity Tools offers a large selection of dovetail bits designed with negative shear angle to provide ultra smooth cuts, and they’re available in all sizes and for all needs. But one thing that doesn’t change …  is the general shape of the bit. The weakest point of all dovetail router bits is their neck. To get the longest life possible from this type of bit, we recommend pre-plowing the groove before cutting the dovetail slot.

Pre-plowing is the concept of using a straight bit (sized smaller than the diameter of the neck) to first cut a clearance channel. Start by finding the diameter of the neck of the dovetail bit using a caliper.

Then you locate an appropriate straight bit slightly under the diameter of the neck of the dovetail bit. Use that straight bit to set up the plowing cut.

You make a first pass with the straight bit to remove much of the waste. Remember don’t run this straight bit too fast. Let the bit cut.

The dovetail bit is then used to follow through that channel, but the stress on the bit is greatly reduced, leading to better dovetail cuts … and a longer life for your dovetail bits!

Follow this simple tip and you'll get the best performance from your dovetail router bits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the Tapered Dovetail Spline System?

The system pairs an anodized aluminum router jig with a brass guide bushing, an exclusive dovetail router bit, and a CNC-machined HDPE table saw sled with a replaceable zero-clearance insert. It's offered in money-saving packages or a value-packed master package. See our dovetail joinery collection.

How does the system create the spline joint?

The router jig and brass guide rout a tapered dovetail groove in the box corner, and the table saw sled cuts a matching tapered spline. The two fit together like hand in glove for a gap-free joint.

Will the sled work on my table saw?

The sled works on most right-tilt and left-tilt table saws with 3/4"-wide miter slots. Confirm your saw's miter slot width before ordering.

Can I use a handheld router or do I need a router table?

You can use either — the spline jigs work with handheld routers or at the router table to rout the tapered grooves.

How many jig sizes come with the system?

The spline jigs come in two sizes, giving you multiple design variations for your boxes.

What materials are the components made from?

The router jig is anodized, extruded aluminum with a brass guide bushing, and the table saw sled is CNC-machined HDPE with a replaceable zero-clearance insert — quality components built for long life.

What does the tapered design accomplish?

The tapered groove and spline fit together precisely, so the spline locks in place for beautiful, gap-free results that also reinforce the joinery on your projects.

What projects is this system best for?

It's designed to add classic, distinctive detail to box projects, making your boxes stand out with intricate, strong dovetail splines. Explore more joinery router bits.

How are the splines kept a consistent width?

A stop block on the sled's fence ensures repeatable, accurate spline widths every time you cut.

Are replacement parts available?

Yes. The components are also available individually, and the system itself is offered in money-saving packages or a master package. Browse related carbide router bits for your shop.
