    Brass Pilot Router Bits

Brass Pilot Router Bits allow guided routing into spaces that would stop bits with standard bearings dead in their tracks.

Most woodworkers are familiar with bearing-guided roundover and chamfer woodworking router bits. While these are great for routing the outside edges of a project, there are a lot of situations when the bearing just won't fit. This is where brass-pilot woodworking router bits really shine. Instead of a 1/2" diameter bearing, these bits have a smaller 3/16" diameter brass pilot that gets into tight corners where a standard bearing-guided bit just won't fit. They are a favorite of box makers, toy and sign-makers, and professional cabinetmakers.

The brass pilot is able to fit into tighter areas than the traditional bearing-guided router bit on the left.

Rounding the edge of a hole is one place where these bits come in handy. They're the perfect solution for the dog holes on a workbench, for example. This makes it easier to install the bench dogs and helps keep the top edge of the hole from cracking from clamping pressure.

Brass-pilot router bits are perfect for rounding over or creating a chamfer on drilled holes.

Another great reason to use brass pilot router bits is that they generally have a lower profile than a bearing-guided bit. This means they can be used in situations where a bearing may hit the bottom of a rabbet, groove, or blind hole.

These bits are smaller in diameter than their bearing-guided counterparts. This makes them ideal for use in compact or trim routers. Brass-pilot router bits are an excellent choice when routing small workpieces where larger bits are unwieldy. Each Infinity brass-pilot router bit has the item number and size (radius or degree of chamfer) laser-etched onto the shank. This makes it easier to ensure you have the right bit for the task.

    Infinity's brass-pilot router bits are available individually or in a money-saving 6-pc. set. There are four roundover bits (1/16", 1/8", 1/4", & 3/8"-radius) and a pair chamfer bits (45° & 22.5°).
