Go Where No Bit Has Gone Before with these Brass Pilot Router Bits

These specially-crafted bits allow guided routing into spaces that would stop bits with standard bearings dead in their tracks. No need to work a twisted piece of sandpaper into a tight design, these bits will quickly soften sharp corners in hard-to-reach spaces. The brass tips keep the bit from scoring or burning the work surface, avoiding even more sanding!

A few years ago, a friend of mine opened a brewery and asked me to make 100 "flight trays" (little boards that hold small glasses of sample beer). The tray was to be in an intricate shape, and probably would have been best done by a CNC machine, but I agreed to it because he was a friend. I figured, hey, just cut an MDF template on the bandsaw and pump out the rest with a router. I was sorely mistaken, and in the end, I did more file, rasp, and riffler work than I'd like to for the rest of my life. I might as well have been making 100 fancy saw handles. Oh, had I only had a set of these bits, I could've had these done in a few days, not the embarrassing amount of time I actually spent. Before you succumb to a similar fate, please consider this 6-Piece Brass Pilot Router Bit Set.

Most woodworkers are familiar with bearing-guided roundover and chamfer woodworking router bits. While these are great for routing the outside edges of a project, there are a lot of situations when the bearing just won't fit. This is where brass-pilot woodworking router bits really shine. Instead of a 1/2" diameter bearing, these bits have a smaller 3/16" diameter brass pilot that gets into tight corners where a standard bearing-guided bit just won't fit. They are a favorite of box makers, toy and sign-makers, and professional cabinetmakers.

Rounding the edge of a hole is one place where these bits come in handy. They're the perfect solution for the dog holes on a workbench, for example. This makes it easier to install the bench dogs and helps keep the top edge of the hole from cracking from clamping pressure.

Another great reason to use brass pilot router bits is that they generally have a lower profile than a bearing-guided bit. This means they can be used in situations where a bearing may hit the bottom of a rabbet, groove, or blind hole.

These bits are smaller in diameter than their bearing-guided counterparts. This makes them ideal for use in compact or trim routers. Brass-pilot router bits are an excellent choice when routing small workpieces where larger bits are unwieldy. Each Infinity brass-pilot router bit has the item number and size (radius or degree of chamfer) laser-etched onto the shank. This makes it easier to ensure you have the right bit for the task.

Infinity's brass-pilot router bits are available individually or in a money-saving 6-pc. set. There are four roundover bits (1/16", 1/8", 1/4", & 3/8"-radius) and a pair chamfer bits (45° & 22.5°).
