A rub collar is a smooth steel ring that mounts on the shaper spindle above or below the cutter. It contacts the edge of the workpiece and acts as a depth stop, controlling how much of the cutter profile engages the wood. This allows curved or shaped workpieces to be profiled without a fence by following the rub collar against the stock edge.

T-bushings adapt shaper cutters with a larger bore to fit a smaller spindle diameter. They fill the gap between the cutter bore and the spindle, eliminating play that would allow the cutter to shift during operation.

The Shape-Up shaper cutter accessories in this collection — including the T-bushings and rub collars — are designed for 1/2" diameter spindle shapers, which is the most common spindle size in the North American market for smaller shapers.

The 4-piece shim set allows the cutter stack to be positioned at a precise height on the spindle. Running a shaper without both a rub collar and a fence is unsafe. One or the other must always control the depth of cut. A rub collar is appropriate for curved work; a fence is used for straight cuts. Never operate a shaper with the cutter unsupported by a guide.
