A track saw handles sheet goods breakdown and long straight cuts exceptionally well. It cannot easily replace the table saw for repetitive rip cuts in solid lumber, dado and groove work, or small-part work where the table saw's fence and sled system excels. The Milescraft TrackSaw Square hooks over the factory edge of the panel and aligns the guide rail at a perfect 90 degrees automatically. Without a squaring tool, you would need to measure from both ends of the panel to the track to confirm it is perpendicular — a two-person job that takes much longer than using a dedicated square.

For melamine and laminated panels, use a high tooth count blade — more teeth per inch means smaller chips and less chipping of the brittle laminate surface. The track's rubber edge strip also helps support the laminate at the cut line. For very demanding laminate work, score the cut line with a utility knife before sawing to sever the surface fibers ahead of the blade.
