Coping & Crosscut Sleds for Precise, Clean End-Grain Cuts
The most difficult task of making rail and stile doors for kitchen cabinets or furniture is making the cope cut in the ends of the rails. This is difficult because the workpiece is narrow and doesn't have enough surface area to reference off of the router table fence. Also, the cope cut is made across the end grain of the workpiece and is prone to blowout as the workpiece passes the router bit. The Infinity Cutting Tools Professional Coping Sled (COP-201) solves all of these problems and a few more that you may experience when building any form of frame and panel, glass panel, interior and exterior door, or many other joinery cuts at the router table or spindle shaper.
Clamps Make the Difference
The clamps on the Infinity Professional Coping Sleds are the key to its versatility. There are two different clamp options available. The Infinity Coping Sled (COP-200) uses three standard toggle clamps to secure the workpiece. These clamps require adjustment when switching between materials of different thicknesses but provide some serious clamping power. They can be adjusted to hold material from 5/8" to 1-1/4" thick. If you make cabinet doors and rarely change material thickness, this is a great option. The Professional Coping Sled (COP-201) uses three auto-adjusting toggle clamps. These clamps allow easy clamping of material ranging in thickness from 5/8" all the way up to 2" thick. These clamps are the most versatile and convenient. The auto-adjust clamps allow the tension to be set anywhere between 25lb and 250lb of clamping force regardless of the thickness of the workpiece being clamped. There's no need to fiddle with the clamp if you are working with different thicknesses of material or working with softer species of wood that are prone to pressure marks.
Dedicated Backer Block Clamping
The clamp closest to the router bit is canted specifically to allow a backer block to be clamped in place. This little detail allows your backer block to stay in place without the need to be readjusted when cutting batches of parts. Definitely a big timesaver.
A Visor for Safety and Accuracy
The visor on the Pro Coping Sled is made of 3/8"-thick polycarbonate (Lexan) and can be set to either 2-1/2" or 3" above the table surface. The added heft of the visor ensures that it will not slip into a 1/4"-20 T-track often found on router table and shaper fences. While the visor provides a clear view of the cut being made and excellent protection from flying debris, the visor's main purpose is to reference off of the fence and ensure an accurate, snipe-free cut on the ends of your workpieces. The depth of cut can also be adjusted to either 11/16" or 1-7/8". This is perfect when making standard and extended tenon joints.
Miter Bar Compatibility
In the event that a greater depth of cut is required the Pro Coping Sled has two sets of mounting holes perfectly spaced to mount an Infinity Tools Miter Bar COP-MB1. The miter bar allows the sled to reference from your table's miter track instead of the fence. This is perfect when an extra deep cut needs to be made. The extended tenons on an exterior door often require added reach. The two mounting locations allow the centerline of the miter bar to be mounted 3" or 4.5" from the edge of the coping sled. This allows the user to adjust the amount of clearance from the sled to the router bit or shaper cutter.
A Low Friction Base
Every Pro Coping Sled includes a low friction base film. This film allows the sled to glide effortlessly across cast iron, phenolic, and laminate surfaces. An added benefit is it reduces wear and scratches on the surface of your table.
Mass Equals Stability
The all-aluminum construction of the Professional Coping Sled weighs in at 7.5 pounds. As a result, cuts are smoother than those made with a lighter weight sled or no sled at all. What does this mean for you? Each joint will fit better and help your router bits last longer, allowing you to get more work done.
