Pre-Machined Router Bit Setup Block - For Standard Rail & Stile Bit, 91-502

Don't fumble with router bit setup, some cutters take more time to get setup correctly. For example, getting the perfect cut from your Rail & Stile router bit can be frustrating if you don't have experience with this type of bit. That's why we took the pain out of router bit setups with our pre-machined 3/4" thick set- up block. Made from pre-cut high density plastic, they'll make once frustrating bit set-up a thing of the past.

Easy to use; set the height of your router bit so the 3/4" thick block matches the profile of your cutter, since the height of your bit is automatically set, you only make a few trial cuts to dial it in. Don't waste wood or time. For use with 3/4" stock only, will work with most manufacturer's bits. Checkout the helpful videos for set-block usage below.

Rail & Stile For Entry & Passage Doors

Building a 1-3/8" thick interior, or 1-3/4" thick exterior facing door has never been easier. With the help of these 2-piece Door Making router bit sets, you'll be able to make the rails and stiles necessary to make solid wood doors for your very own home. Each Infinity Tools Entry & Passage Door Rail and Stile set includes two router bits. Use the included 1/4" kerf slot cutter to increase the width of the tongue and groove from 1/4" for interior doors to 1/2" thick for exterior doors.

Make your own entry doors with our router bit sets!

Entry and passage doors have traditional been made on shapers, but you can do the same professional work on your router table with our Interior & Exterior Door Router Bit Sets. Shown on our sample door, above, is one of the three profiles we offer (Ogee, Mission and Shaker).

The supplied optional slot cutter allows you to make interior or exterior doors.
The supplied optional slot cutter allows you to make interior or exterior doors.

Each set includes two slot cutters to adjust between a thicker exterior door (1-3/4"-thick) and a thinner interior door (1-3/8"-thick), by simply switching out the slot cutter on the bit.

With the bit height set, check the fence depth against the bit.
With the bit height set, check the fence depth against the bit.

With the bit set for your door thickness and the height adjusted in the router table, the fence depth needs to be set. Using either a straight edge or steel rule, align the fences with the inner-most edge of the cutting profile. Remember, when working with larger router bits, a slower speed (12,000 rpm) is strongly recommended for safety and for a better finished cut on the edge of the wood.

Proper hold-downs and supports will improve the cut.
Proper hold-downs and supports will improve the cut.

Proper hold-downs or feather boards will keep the material tight against the bit and improve the quality of the cut. I'm using Jessem's Clear Cut Router Table Stock Guide and a board behind the workpiece to give me plenty of support during the cut. Along with the slower bit speed, remember to move the workpiece past the bit at a reasonably slow rate to let the bit cut. Too fast and you'll end up with chatter and tear-out, and we don't want that!

The rail-cutting bit is next.

With the stiles complete, it's time to switch to the rail-cutting bit. Because I'm cutting an interior door, I've removed one of the two center bearings to match the profile on the stile-cutting bit.

Running the rails.

When running the rails, continue to use the same slower bit speed, and support the cut as well as possible. I'm guiding the bit using my miter gauge (check for square before cutting!), but you might also want to consider Infinity's Coping Sled for even more support.

Extended tenons add extra strength for your door, and are easy to make.
Extended tenons add extra strength for your door, and are easy to make.

Making an extended tenon will add great strength to the door joints and keep a door from starting to rack over time. Using an extended cutter, and setting the router bit up to match the profile on the already created rail end, make multiple cuts to slowly create the extended tenon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this setup block used for?

It is a pre-machined block that sets the height of the Infinity 91-502 Standard Rail & Stile router bit set quickly and accurately, so you avoid frustrating trial-and-error setups. See more joinery router bits.

Which router bit set is this block designed for?

It is made specifically for the Infinity 91-502 Standard Rail & Stile Bit Set, with the block profile matched to that cutter.

How thick is the setup block?

The block is 3/4" thick, so it matches the profile of your cutter and references the correct bit height automatically.

What stock thickness does it work with?

It is designed for use with 3/4" stock only. Matching your stock thickness to the block is what makes the height setting accurate.

What is the setup block made of?

It is made from pre-cut high-density plastic, machined to the cutter profile for durable, repeatable setups.

Will this block work with other brands of router bits?

It is built for the Infinity 91-502 set but will work with most manufacturers' rail and stile bits of the same standard profile.

How do I use the setup block?

Set your router bit height so the 3/4" block matches the profile of the cutter. Because the height is then automatically referenced, you only need a few trial cuts to fine-tune the fit.

Does the setup block save time?

Yes. It eliminates much of the trial-and-error involved in dialing in a rail and stile bit, so you stop wasting wood and time on test cuts.

Do I still need to make test cuts?

You will only need a few trial cuts to dial it in, rather than starting from scratch, because the block sets the bit height for you.

What else do I need for rail and stile work?

You will want the 91-502 rail and stile bit set plus the rest of your cabinetry and joinery tools. Explore more door-making tools for cabinet doors and frame-and-panel projects.
