    Brass Pilot Router Bits

Brass Pilot Router Bits allow guided routing into spaces that would stop bits with standard bearings dead in their tracks.

The 00-386, 6-pc. brass-pilot router bit set is a great addition to any woodworking shop.

Most woodworkers are familiar with bearing-guided roundover and chamfer woodworking router bits. While these are great for routing the outside edges of a project, there are a lot of situations when the bearing just won't fit. This is where brass-pilot woodworking router bits really shine. Instead of a 1/2" diameter bearing, these bits have a smaller 3/16" diameter brass pilot that gets into tight corners where a standard bearing-guided bit just won't fit. They are a favorite of box makers, toy and sign-makers, and professional cabinetmakers.

The brass pilot is able to fit into tighter areas than the traditional bearing-guided router bit on the left.

Rounding the edge of a hole is one place where these bits come in handy. They're the perfect solution for the dog holes on a workbench, for example. This makes it easier to install the bench dogs and helps keep the top edge of the hole from cracking from clamping pressure.

Brass-pilot router bits are perfect for rounding over or creating a chamfer on drilled holes.

Another great reason to use brass pilot router bits is that they generally have a lower profile than a bearing-guided bit. This means they can be used in situations where a bearing may hit the bottom of a rabbet, groove, or blind hole.

These bits are smaller in diameter than their bearing-guided counterparts. This makes them ideal for use in compact or trim routers. Brass-pilot router bits are an excellent choice when routing small workpieces where larger bits are unwieldy. Each Infinity brass-pilot router bit has the item number and size (radius or degree of chamfer) laser-etched onto the shank. This makes it easier to ensure you have the right bit for the task.

    Infinity's brass-pilot router bits are available individually or in a money-saving 6-pc. set. There are four roundover bits (1/16", 1/8", 1/4", & 3/8"-radius) and a pair chamfer bits (45° & 22.5°).

    Frequently Asked Questions

What makes these chamfer bits different from standard bearing-guided bits?

They use a brass pilot guide instead of a bearing, which lets them reach into very tight corners where a standard bearing won't fit. The brass also won't burn or score the wood as it guides the bit. See more edge-forming router bits.

    What chamfer angles are included?

The set includes a 45° chamfer bit and a 22.5° chamfer bit, and both feature a 1/2" cutter height.

What shank size do these bits have?

They have a 1/4" shank, so they fit any router that accepts a 1/4" collet. Browse the full collection of carbide router bits.

Will the brass guide burn or mark my wood?

No. Unlike a bearing that can stall and scorch in a tight corner, the brass guide rides along the work without burning or scoring it.

    What are the cutter dimensions?

The cutter diameters are 1" and 1/2", and both bits have a 1/2" cutter height in a chamfer profile.

What projects are these chamfer bits good for?

They are great for signs and lettering, intricate template following, easing tight corners with chamfers, and working thin or delicate workpieces. Pair them with router templates for repeatable results.

Can I use these for sign making?

Yes. The brass guide reaches into tight lettering and intricate template details, making these bits a strong choice for sign and lettering work.

Are these chamfer bits good for delicate pieces?

Yes. They are well suited to thin or delicate workpieces, and the brass guide helps you ease tight corners cleanly without burning.

What is a chamfer used for?

A chamfer softens corners and creates an easing change between surfaces. It is also used for decorative detail. For larger decorative profiles, see our molding router bits.

Who makes these chamfer router bits?
