Lots of woodworkers use a shop vacuum to collect dust when using routers, circular saws and any number of power tools. They work well ... for a while. Until the filter starts to clog as the collector fills quickly with the chips and dust.
Dust separators aren't a new idea, but the Quick Snap Dust Separator offers new economy, excellent performance and you can watch it work! Designed to fit onto nearly any 5-gallon bucket, you'll be impressed with the amount of dust and chips that are kept from clogging your shop vacuum. We did notice that some 5-gallon bucket have slightly flimsly lids, so we also offer a quick attach stiffener to improve performance.
The Dust Separator needs only two simple connections, with the first being to your shop vacuum. The connection is a 2-1/4" interior diamter and an outer diameter of 2-1/2", which fits the great majority of shop vacuums.
Next, simply attach your tool of the moment to the dust separator. The inlet is the same as with the shop vacuum connection (2-1/4" I.D./2-1/2" O.D.), and should you need adaptors to make that fit, take a look at the Quick Snap Small Tool Dust Collection Hose & Adaptors.
Then turn things on and go to work! While there's never really a doubt that the dust is being pulled away from your work (and lungs), it's comforting (and fun) to watch the dust and chips swirl around inside the separator, before falling into the bucket.
It may not be rocket science, but it is science. The dust and chips are pulled into the top of the separator and the shape of the separator spins the waste around the inside walls. Because the dust and chips are heavier, then naturally fall to the bottom of the separator and into the bucket below. The air flow continues up the interior tube and into your shop vacuum, but very little of the waste makes the full trip!
The results speak for themselves. Very little waste makes it to your shop vacumm's filter, or collection bin. Keep your shop, lungs and shop vac filter free of debris with the DIY Quick Snap Dust Separator.
