Our Carver's Vice gives you the ability to hold workpieces securely while shaping, sanding, routing, or carving and is essential for woodworkers. Flat and square parts are relatively easy to clamp. But curved, tapered, and otherwise irregular parts can be extremely difficult to hold securely. This is where the Carver's Vise (100-586) shines. Don't let the name fool you. The Carver's Vise, while great for carving, is also a favorite of luthiers, chairmakers, gunsmiths, and furniture makers because it makes securing irregularly shaped stock a breeze.
The Carver's Vise (100-586) mounts easily to just about any workbench with dog holes. A threaded post attached to the base of the vise passes through the dog hole and the included wing nut clamps the vise from underneath. This makes installing, positioning, and removing the vise quick and easy. The fact that you don't need to make any permanent modifications to your workbench is a definite positive in my book.
The magic of the Carver's Vise comes from its jaws that can rotate a full 360°. They allow you to clamp stock up to 5-3/4" thick and can be used to spread from 8" to 14-1/2". The included wooden jaws are rubber lined, producing a slip-free grip that won't scratch or mar your workpiece. These jaws can easily be replaced with your own custom-shaped jaws if desired.
Made of cast iron and steel this vice is no wimp and weighs in at over 30 pounds. The dual steel guide beams prevent racking through the full range of motion. The distinctive shape and design allow this vise to rotate a full 360° allowing you to position the work exactly how you need it so you don't have to "chase the work" around your bench. the flexibility eliminates interference if you need to mount the vise near a wall or other obstacle that limits access from all sides.
Carver or not, this vise is a must-have in almost every woodworking shop because it will hold the workpieces other vises won't, saving you time and eliminating frustration.
