A zero clearance insert is a replacement or modified throat plate that has a slot cut to exactly match the kerf of a specific saw blade. With no gap around the blade, wood fibers are supported right up to the cut, which prevents tear-out on the bottom face of the workpiece.

You apply the tape over the existing throat plate slot, then make a slow, controlled plunge with your saw to cut a perfect-fit slot for your blade and bevel angle. The tape provides the backing material that closes the original gap.

Yes. When you change the bevel angle on a compound miter saw, the blade exits the throat plate at a different position, so the existing slot may not provide zero clearance at the new angle. The five-tape pack lets you create dedicated inserts for your most-used bevel settings.

The ZCI tape is designed to be applied to your existing throat plate, so it works with most standard miter saw models regardless of brand. Check that your throat plate surface is clean and flat for best adhesion.

The improvement is most noticeable on delicate materials like figured hardwood, thin solid wood trim, and veneered components. On rough lumber cuts the difference is less critical, but on finish-quality crosscuts a ZCI can eliminate the need for sanding the cut end entirely.

A high tooth count blade with a negative hook angle, such as the Infinity Tools Miter-Max, works best with a ZCI. The combination of a close-fitting insert and a fine-cutting blade produces the cleanest possible crosscut surface.

Replace the tape when the slot has been widened by repeated cuts at different angles, when the tape begins to lift or peel, or when you change to a blade with a different kerf width. The five-piece pack allows for several replacements.

Yes. Plywood face veneers are prone to tear-out when the blade exits through the bottom face. A zero clearance insert supports the veneer fibers at the cut line and significantly reduces splintering, especially when used with a fine crosscut blade.
