MillRight Mega V XL CNC
The Mega V XL machine takes small CNC to industrial level speeds thanks to its powerful motors, rack-and-pinion drive system, and its Mega V bearing rollers and custom Mega V extrusion. The bearing plates are precision cut from heavy-duty 1/4” steel (twice as thick as what many competitors use).
These premium features are combined with high-performance NEMA 23 motors with more than double the holding torque of other machines in the class! The motors are married to large digital stepper motor drivers and a 48VDC power supply that maximizes the performance of the motors. The super-rigid frame and premium drive system combine for unmatched performance.
We think the MillRight Mega V XL is the best CNC for woodworking. After a lengthy search for a high-quality USA-made CNC machine at a great price, we found MillRight. We also had the opportunity to visit their brand-new purpose-built manufacturing facility. MillRight HQ stands amidst a picturesque blackberry farm in southern Georgia. The immediately preceding sentence is in no way hyperbolic. The place is pretty serene as manufacturing facilities go. The juxtaposition of a modern manufacturing facility with a pastoral idyll is not what one expects.
But enough waxing about the property where these machines are born, let's get down to brass tacks about why you should choose a Mega V XL over its competitors:
Excellent Value for Money
At first look, we were left scratching our heads as to how the Mega V XL could provide such a feature set at this price point. Thankfully, the machine wasn’t too good to be true. There is no other CNC machine that combines such a large work envelope, high-end components, and first-rate performance for such a competitive price. It all comes down to lean, efficient manufacturing practices and a dogged commitment to making a great product.
Big Footprint
The Mega V XL has very little competition for size at this price point. With a 48” x 42” total footprint and a 35” x 35” x 3.75” work envelope, the Mega V XL can handle some serious-sized workpieces. This large size is also helpful if you need to set up separate work areas for repetitive batching of one part or combining multiple elements into a single setup.
Premium Parts
The guts of the Mega V XL are where it sets itself apart. The fully tracked aluminum t-slot table provides endless clamping versatility for workpieces or fixing a spoil board. Next, the bearing plates are precision cut from heavy-duty 1/4” steel—twice as thick as many competitors use—and the super-rigid extruded aluminum frame. A unique precision 20 diametral pitch rack atop the frame with a hardened steel pinion drive system moves the machine across x and y axes, where competitors often use lead screws. These pinions are attached to high torque NEMA 23 motors. A lead screw with an anti-backlash nut, also linked to a NEMA 23 motor, accomplishes Z-axis movement. All movements are direct-drive instead of belt-driven, adding stability and durability. Finally, in the brains of the machine, the control box contains powerful digital stepper motor drivers to maximize performance, and precision homing switches set each axis’ limits.
The robust structure is not the only great feature. The Mega V XL also includes Makita RT0701C router motor and magnetic dust boot.
Extreme Performance
Thanks to the aforementioned high-end components, the Mega V XL is fast. The Mega V rapid traverses at 650 inches per minute on the X and Y axes, giving a diagonal traverse rate of almost 920 inches per minute (23,368mm/minute). These systems have even tested diagonal traverse rates exceeding 1,800 inches per minute! The design team had to slow down the Mega V to keep it from being “too fast.” Just as importantly, the Mega V has the power to accelerate very quickly. It goes from full stop to full speed in a flash. With a maximum cutting rate of 500 inches per minute (12,700 mm/minute), the Mega V can cut more than twice as fast as other machines can rapid traverse.
