A selection of straight router bits.

Straight Router Bits do the Work

Certainly the “bread and butter” of woodworking bits, straight router bits are available in a wide variety of sizes. Their C4 carbide-tipped cutters promise smooth long-lasting cuts, yet they’re relatively inexpensive compared to spiral bits. Available in standard, pattern routing, and flush trimming varieties … these workhorse router bits from Infinity have you covered.

Flush Trimming Router Bit

Flush Trimming Router Bits

With a ball bearing mounted at the tip, flush trimming router bits are the perfect choice for cleaning up laminated posts, or almost any flush-trim application.  Even though a flush trim router bit is considered a “straight router bit”, Infinity router bit designs utilize a downshear angle for optimal cut quality.

Bearing Matches Cutter Diameter

The shear angle of the carbide produces wispy shavings and clean flush trimming cuts – even in chip-out prone hardwoods like white oak.  Since the bearing matches the carbide cutter diameter, you’re guaranteed a flush cut.

Flush trim bits are available with top or bottom bearings, depending on use.

Pattern Routing Bit

Every furniture maker or guitar builder has a prized collection of pattern routing bits.  Like flush trimming router bits, the bearing matches the cutter diameter.  However, the bearing is located on the collet side for a wide range of cuts, including both handheld and router table operations.  Shown is Infinity model #12-771B with ½” shank and ¾” cutter dia. x 2” cutting length.

Cut Close, then Pattern Rout

Use your template to mark a pencil line, and remove most of the waste with a jigsaw or bandsaw.  With the template firmly clamped in place, remove the remaining waste with a pattern routing bit.  Move the router in a counterclockwise direction for the most predictable results.

The Basic straight router bit.

Mr. Basic

Is a straight router bit the plain one?  Maybe, but what woodworking shop could function without a selection of straight router bits?  Great for cutting dados and rabbets, straight router bits will have your case goods and cabinets coming together flawlessly.

Great for making grooves.

Carcase Dados are a Snap

Chuck a straight router bit in your handheld router, and follow a straightedge to plow perfect dados!  Mr. Basic might do the simple things, but he does them well.  Crisp, clean dados are virtually splinter-free in this wide hardwood panel.

Perfectly sized grooves!

Precise Joinery

Quality carbide tipped straight router bits leave nothing to be desired.  Make sure to outfit your shop with a good variety of these value-conscious router bits.  The payoff is snug fitting joinery for all your woodworking projects.

From thin enough for small inlays, to large material-hogging options, straight bits are available for many applications.

Wide Variety of Sizes

Straight router bits are available down to an incredibly small 1/16” diameter for fine precision work.  You’re sure to find the bit for your exact application.

Takes much of the sanding out of pattern work.

You’ll Never “Sand to the Line” Again

If you only had one part to make, there might be a case for sanding to the line.  However most projects need multiple parts, and benefit from a template and pattern routing bit.  Get unmatched speed and efficiency by pattern routing your parts!

Frequently Asked Questions

What router do I need for these 1/4" shank bits?

Any router with a 1/4" collet will accept these bits, including most compact and trim routers as well as full-size machines. See the complete range of straight router bits for more sizes.

What cutter diameters are offered?

These straight bits come in cutter diameters of 1/16", 1/4", 1/2", and 1", with cutter heights ranging from 3/16" up to 1-1/4".

What are these router bits made of?

They use the finest micrograin carbide tips for sharpness and durability, with bodies C.N.C. machined from a special Fatigue-Proof steel for rigidity and accuracy.

What jobs can I do with a straight router bit?

Straight bits handle dadoes, rabbets, grooves, mortises, and pattern cuts — virtually any operation requiring a straight edge. They are among the most versatile cutters in the shop. Browse matching grooving bits.

Why is Fatigue-Proof steel important?

Fatigue-Proof steel resists flex and vibration under load, so the bit body stays rigid and true. That translates into smoother cuts and a longer, more accurate working life.

Can I use these bits in a router table?

Yes, they work well both handheld and table-mounted. For dado and groove work in a table, pair them with our router table accessories for cleaner, safer results.

Which size should I pick for cutting dadoes?

Choose a cutter diameter that matches the thickness of the stock you are housing — for example, a 1/2" bit for 1/2" plywood shelves. The range from 1/16" to 1" covers most common joinery widths.

Who manufactures these router bits?

They are made by Infinity Cutting Tools. You can explore the broader collection of carbide router bits for sets and specialty profiles.

Are these bits good for plywood and hardwood?

Yes. The micrograin carbide edges cut cleanly in plywood, MDF, softwoods, and hardwoods alike, making them suitable for everything from cabinet carcasses to solid-wood joinery.

How do I extend the life of my straight bits?

Keep the bits clean of pitch buildup, take lighter passes in dense hardwoods, and have them professionally resharpened when the edge dulls. Carbide tips can be re-honed many times for years of service.
