These quality Top Bearing Pattern router bits feature a bearing above the cutter which mounts to the shank. When used in a table mounter router, this configuration allows you to place your pattern below your workpiece which means you can see what you're routing! For best results and longer router bit life we suggest you rough cut your work piece so it's about 1/8" larger than your pattern and then use your top bearing router bit to make the final cut.

Each router bit here comes with a top bearing kit that includes a stop collar, allen key and quality double-sealed bearing. The O.D. of the bearing is the same diameter as the router bit cutter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included with this top-bearing router bit?

Each bit comes with a complete top-bearing kit that includes a stop collar, an allen key, and a quality double-sealed bearing. The bearing's outside diameter matches the cutter diameter.

Will this 1/2" shank bit fit my router?

Yes, if your router accepts a 1/2" collet. The larger 1/2" shank provides extra stability for the bigger cutter diameters offered here. Browse more flush-trim router bits.

What is a top-bearing pattern router bit used for?

It copies a template onto your workpiece. The bearing rides above the cutter on a pattern placed beneath the stock, making it ideal for duplicating parts, signs, and curved shapes. See our router templates.

What cutter diameters are available?

This bit is offered in 3/4", 1", and 1-1/4" cutter diameters, with cutter heights up to 2". The bearing diameter matches the cutter on each size.

Why is the bearing the same diameter as the cutter?

Because the bearing's outside diameter matches the cutter, the bit trims your workpiece exactly flush to the template, producing a precise duplicate of the pattern's shape.

How do I get the cleanest cut and longest bit life?

Rough-cut your workpiece about 1/8" oversize, then make a final light pass with the bearing following the template. This reduces burning and extends the bit's edge life.

Why place the template below the workpiece?

With a top-bearing bit in a router table the template goes underneath, so the workpiece is on top where you can see it. This improves visibility and control compared with bottom-bearing flush-trim bits.

Is the bearing sealed for durability?

Yes. The included bearing is a quality double-sealed bearing, which helps keep dust and resin out for smooth, long-lasting operation.

What projects is this bit good for?

Template-routing duplicate parts, sign making, and curved furniture components, especially larger pieces that benefit from the 1/2" shank. Pair it with our router templates.

Should this bit be used in a router table?

Yes. The top-bearing design is intended for a table-mounted router so the pattern can sit below the workpiece, giving you the best visibility and control for pattern routing.
