You step down on each pedal to activate the lever cam mechanism, which raises the bench off the floor so you can move it. To stabilize the bench again, lift up on the pedal to disengage the caster and lower the bench back down.

The casters carry a 300-lb weight capacity, so they will stand up to a loaded workbench in your shop.
