Adjustable Mouth Plus Skewed Blade for Clean Cuts!
The Skew Rabbet Plane can be used for planing slots, half-slots, sills, or rabbets on doors and window frames. The Skew Rabbet Plane is made of European beech hardwood with a long-wearing hornbeam sole, these planes are ready for a lifetime of use.
21mm blade (0.8") replacement blade for 101-646 Skew Rabbet Plane. Hardened and tempered to 58HRC.
The 24mm-wide (0.9") blade is inserted near the center of the body, the bed angle is 45° and the blade covers the entire width of the plane. The blade's edge is precisely fixed into a position which enables it to cut into the material gradually instead of using the entire width of the blade. This means less effort and cleaner cuts. The blade is skewed at a 25° angle for slicing through end grain with ease. Blade may require initial flattening of the back and honing before use.
The Skew Rabbet Plane is equipped with an adjustable sole for setting the mouth opening.
This traditional-style plane uses a wedge to secure the blade. The blade projection, angle, and wedge tightness are adjusted with light taps using a mallet. To remove the bade for sharpening, simply tap the back of the plane's body with a mallet while securing the blade with your opposite hand. We recommend our 101-757 or 101-758 Delrin-tipped brass mallet.
