Standard polyurethane is not rated for food contact and may not flex as well with the movement of a turned bowl, especially thin-walled pieces.

With the lathe running at a low speed, apply Wood Bowl Finish to a folded cloth or foam applicator and hold it lightly against the rotating piece. The spinning motion spreads the finish evenly and works it into the grain. Apply thin coats to avoid runs, and sand lightly between coats with fine-grit paper.
