MicroJIG MATCHFIT 1/2" Shank Dovetail Router Bit

Regular price $35.90

If you make your jigs and fixtures, you've probably dealt with T-Track. T-Track is great, but it's not always immediately available, it isn't cheap, and it doesn't always suit the situation (just run into it with an expensive router bit if you need proof). Enter MicroJIG's MATCHFIT dovetail-slot jig, fixture, and clamping system. MATCHFIT is comprised of various hardware and specialized clamps designed to slide into a 14°, 1/2" dovetail slot making any surface a clamping surface. Any 14°, 1/2" dovetail bit can be used with the hardware and clamps, but the dovetail slot created by their specialized bit is as strong as t-track and is more stable and easier to cut than slots created by t-slot bits. With the MATCHFIT system, pretty much any jig, clamping apparatus, or sled can be created on the fly.

Specialized MATCHFIT Dovetail Bit (MJG-213) — ideally suited to rout clamping slots. Standard 14°, 1/2" dovetail bits will work, but this bit leaves a 1/32" round-over relief at the bottom of the slot to strengthen the walls of the slot and allow the clamps and hardware to slide more smoothly. It also creates a 1/16" relief at the top of the slot to prevent tearout and the sort of binding that could compromise the structural integrity of the groove. The MGJ-213 Dovetail bit also has markings that show you exactly where to position the bit for the perfect depth of cut.

Frequently Asked Questions

What shank size is the MATCHFIT dovetail bit?

It has a 1/2" shank and cuts a 14-degree dovetail slot. Browse more carbide router bits.

What dovetail angle does this bit cut?

It cuts a 14-degree dovetail slot, the angle the MATCHFIT hardware and clamps are designed to slide into.

How is the MJG-213 different from a standard dovetail bit?

Standard 14-degree, 1/2" dovetail bits will work, but the MJG-213 adds a 1/32" round-over relief at the bottom and a 1/16" relief at the top of the slot for smoother sliding, less tearout, and a stronger track.

What is the MATCHFIT system used for?

MATCHFIT lets you turn almost any surface into a clamping surface using hardware and clamps that slide into a dovetail slot. It is ideal for building jigs, fixtures, sleds, and clamping setups. See related dovetail joinery tools.

How does the dovetail slot compare to T-track?

The dovetail slot cut by this bit is as strong as T-track, yet more stable and easier to cut than slots made by T-slot bits, without the cost and availability issues of buying T-track.

Does the bit help me set the correct depth of cut?

Yes. The MJG-213 has markings that show exactly where to position the bit for the perfect depth of cut.

Why does the slot have relief cuts at the top and bottom?

The 1/32" bottom round-over strengthens the slot walls and lets hardware slide more smoothly, while the 1/16" top relief prevents tearout and binding that could weaken the groove.

Can I use any dovetail bit with MATCHFIT hardware?

Any 14-degree, 1/2" dovetail bit will work with the hardware and clamps, but the specialized MJG-213 produces a stronger, smoother-sliding slot. Explore more joinery router bits.

Who makes this dovetail bit?

It is made by MicroJIG as part of their MATCHFIT dovetail clamping system.

What projects can I build with the MATCHFIT bit?

You can create custom jigs, fixtures, clamping apparatus, and sleds on the fly. Pair the slots you cut with versatile clamping tools for endless workholding setups.
