All Dowels Are Not Created Equal - Use Our Premium Pins For The Strongest Joints!

Dowel joinery is one of the strongest and widely used construction methods available to woodworkers. Very popular for joining to work pieces where added strength is desirable, the dowel (a round piece of pre-cut wood) is inserted into a mating hole that is usually drilled with the help of a jig. Some woodworkers use dowels in place of mortise & tenon joints because they are usually faster and easier to accomplish. The dowels you choose for your project are just as important as the jig you use.

Made in the USA from the highest quality birch and beech lumber, our multi-grooved dowel pins are the finest quality available. The multi-groove design allows excess glue to escape the joint preventing possible blowout on the side panels. Make sure to use dowels that are consistent in diameter and checked for moisture content. Our premium quality dowel pins are checked to be within .005" diameter and contain between 6% and 8% humidity to give your projects to most consistent dowel joints possible.

What length dowel pin is the best for your job? The length of the dowel is usually determined by how much dowel can be inserted into the shortest member of the two piece joint. Twice this length is the common rule of thumb. For example, if your shortest member is 1" thick and your safest drilling depth is 3/4", then a 1-1/2" long dowel should be used because this is twice the 3/4" thickness. Longer dowel pins have greater holding power.

What diameter dowel pin is the best for your job? The diameter of the dowel should be no greater than half the thickness of your stock. So if your side panel is 1" thick your dowel pin should not be more than 1/2" diameter. Your dowel pin should fit its hole snugly to produce a superior joint.
