Projects with mitered corners are some of the hardest to clamp. Because the surfaces that are being clamped are not in line with the clamping force, the parts always slide around and need to be trapped in order to achieve a tight-fitting joint. This is where framing and miter clamps come into play. While there are lots of different types, one of our favorites is the Adjustable Frame Clamp with Speed Nuts (100-596).
We love how versatile this clamp is and that it applies pressure evenly to all four corners. This clamp has some serious capacity, it can clamp projects as small as 2" square and as large as 47-1/2" square. Depending on how you configure the clamp you can also clamp projects measuring up to 23-1/2" x 71-1/2".
You may have seen frame clamps that look similar, but ours has a unique "speed nut" design that makes your job so much easier. Traditional wing nut or thumb knobs must be threaded up and down the clamping rod in order to adjust the clamp for different sized projects, this takes way too much time and can leave you with sore thumbs! Our adjustable frame clamp uses "speed nuts" that slide quickly up and down the clamping rod and lock in place as soon as tension is applied. Each nut is machined from brass and has a knurled surface that makes them easy to grip
Another advantage of this design is it is extremely quick and easy to disassemble for storage. Because it comes apart and goes together so easily, it takes up very little space in your shop and is much less likely to be damaged when not in use.
Need to clamp an unusually large or oddly shaped project? Each metal corner block is threaded to accept 1/4-20 threaded rods that are commonly available in hardware stores in a variety of lengths. Each clamp includes eight 24" lengths of threaded rod and 4 brass connectors so you can clamp some seriously large projects right out of the box.
Our adjustable framing clamp is not only easy-to-use, it does a great job of clamping everything from picture frames to mitered cabinet doors. The inside of each corner block has a relief cut that protects the sharp outside corners of your projects and ensures each joint pulls tightly together. A pair of these clamps can also be used for clamping mitered boxes to ensure all four corners line up perfectly.
