Is using foam backer board for cutting effective, or is it just for display? Could it be costly for frequent cuts?
Kreg Accu-Cut and Rip-Cut Systems (KMA2685 & KMA2700)
the Kreg video showed a foam backer board for cutting. Is that a good idea for smooth cuts on both sides or is it just perchance that this video used it to cut on to show the product and it works. Never seen it before. I suppose it could get expensive if you so a lot of cutting unless you do repetive cuts with the same slot underneath.

The ridged foam sheet in the video is being used simply to support the work piece and does not significantly help reduce tearout. with a handheld circular saw tearout is most likely to occur on the top surface of the workpiece because of the blade rotation. The track of the Accu-Cut does act like a zero clearance insert and will help to reduce tearout on the surface.
