WOOD STAIN

Here at Infinity Cutting Tools we want you to get the most out of your project. Whether you’re working on an outdoor deck or an indoor table you’ll want to choose the right type of wood finish. We sell both water and oil-based wood stains. When deciding whether to use water or oil-based stains, there are a few important factors to consider about the specific application.  Here is some information to help you decide which type is right for you.

WATER BASED WOOD STAIN

Water based stains have some advantages over oil based. Water based stains do not have a smell like oil does, making them a good choice for indoor applications where air circulation is not ideal. A big thing to note is that this type will dry quicker than oil-based stains, so you will typically be ready to apply a topcoat in 1-3 hours after staining, depending on conditions. Also, pigmented water-based stains contain a heavier pigment load than oil, so darker tones are typically easier to achieve with a single coat.

OIL BASED WOOD STAIN

There are a few factors about oil based wood stains you should know. Oil based stain will have more “open time”, giving you a longer window to work with it before it begins to dry.  This also means you will need to wait 24 hours before applying an oil-based topcoat, or 48 hours to apply a water-based topcoat. Just like the water based stains we do not recommend outdoor use. If you decide to use oil based wood stain for your indoor project make sure the air circulation is ideal.
