I need a bit for a 78 radius curve on a 3 thick maple top. What bit should I use with a plywood pattern?
Infinity Tools 1/4" Shank Straight Router Bit w/ Top Bearing
I have joined two slabs of 3-in thick Boos hard maple butcher block to make a fairly large island counter top. I need to cut a curve (78-in radius) on the counter top. The rough curve is made with a saber saw and I need to now finish the edge. My plan is to make a plywood pattern to guide a top bearing pattern router bit. What bit would you recommend for this work? The router does accept a 1/2-in shank.

I would recommend using a standard straight or up-cut spiral router bit with a brass template guide (guide bushing) to follow your template. This will make it easier to make multiple passes so you don't have to hog off too much wood per pass. The final 3rd or so I would flip the workpiece over and switch to a 3/4" diameter flush-trim bit like the 06-693.
