I need a router bit for 2.5” deep mortises in hard maple. Any recommendations for making flat-bottomed mortises? Infinity Tools 1/4" Shank Solid Carbide Spiral Upcut Router Bits

I am in the process of making a hard maple workbench top. I have to make mortises to fit the the vises into the bottom of the bench and these mortises need to be 2.5 inches in depth. I have a 3 HP router so I know that is up for the task but I need to know what kind of a router bit to use. The bottom of the mortises need to be flat to house the vise hardware. I know that I could drill out the mortises to hog out most of the material but that would not leave a smooth bottom finish. Looking at some of your products a bit extension would work but they seem to have a rather large diameter so I don't know if a pattern bit would work. Any solutions?

Hard to say without knowing the size of the mortises, But I would recommend a dado and planer bit as large in diameter as possible, and take several passes to reach final depth. the larger diameter bit will allow you to use an extension once you get deep, and you can use a bearing guided dado bit to follow your template or mortise once you are deep enough. square the corners up as needed with a chisel.
