Question: Will using a dovetail bit in my jig for sliding dovetails work, given its clearances? I’ll finish the tails on my router table.
Answer: I see no reason why your plan would not work. My concern would be with having a full length sliding dovetail. Traditionally a joint like this would have some form of taper to make assembly easier. Depending on the application another option would be to make a dado with a short section of sliding dovetail at the front end. This is a very common technique used in casework construction and eliminates the binding concerns while still tying the two carcass sides together. All being said you certainly can use a dovetail bit with the precision dado jig as long as it does not cut into the jig itself.
